Avnet Expands Portfolio in China with Sun Microsystems
Beijing, China -- Avnet Technology Solutions, a solutions distributor of enterprise computing products and an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), today announced that it has signed an agreement with Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA) in China. Through this new agreement, Avnet will grow its enterprise software, server and storage solutions practice in China to help partners accelerate time to market by leveraging Avnet's value-added programs that provide a wide range of marketing, sales, technical, financial and logistics services. This marks Avnet Technology Solution's second supplier relationship in China, after they announced a partnership with IBM in December last year when they launched their solutions distribution business in the region.
Avnet first entered the China market in 1995 with a components business which now operates as Avnet Electronics Marketing and serves electronic original equipment manufacturers (EOEMs) and electronic manufacturing services (EMS) providers. Avnet continued to expand that business throughout the region and later opened a solutions integration center focused on embedded OEM's in Tianjin in 2006. In addition, Avnet Technology Solutions serves the component needs of system builders and integrators in China through its Computing Components division.

According to IDC, 2009 Asia Pacific IT spending report, China is still tipped to have the biggest IT spend in terms of dollars and actual percentage growth rates, with USD$68 billion and 6.5% respectively. From a hardware perspective China is projected to have the highest growth and scale with USD$57 billion and 4%, while software spending for China is estimated at USD$ 6 billion and a growth rate of 14.8%.*
