November 16, 2007 - Avnet Wins InfoWorld 100 Award Honoring the Most Innovative Corporate IT Solutions for Fourth Time in Five Years

Avnet Leverages Wireless Technology and Its SOA Infrastructure to Improve Customer Service Experience and Enhance Field Team Productivity

PHOENIX -- Avnet, Inc., a leading global technology distributor (NYSE:AVT), today announced that its field team mobility initiative was recognized with an InfoWorld 100 Award - the fourth time in five years Avnet has received the publication's top honor. The annual awards honor IT projects that demonstrate the most creative use of cutting-edge technologies to further their business goals. To be considered, projects must stretch beyond the typical, off-the-shelf solution, and use multiple technologies in innovative ways to serve well-defined business goals.

InfoWorld chose Avnet for this prestigious award based on the company's field team mobility initiative. This initiative was designed to empower hundreds of Avnet's field-based employees in its electronic components business to provide instantaneous customer service while traveling and on customer visits in the Americas. Leveraging technology to achieve this business goal, Avnet integrated data from 20 different systems, used its sophisticated service-oriented architecture (SOA), and deployed wireless devices to provide employees with secure mobile access to information crucial to their jobs and the customer experience. Employees will benefit from instant access to product price and availability, order status information, product sample orders, design win registrations, shipment history and trend analysis, as well as email, the Internet and Avnet's intranet.

"The power of technology lies in harnessing it to meet business objectives and provide a competitive differentiator," said Ed Smith, senior vice president of sales for Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas. "Avnet's field team mobility initiative used technology to transform how our teams conduct business outside of the office, and they are thrilled to be able to instantaneously resolve questions that would have previously required them to be at their desks. We are delighted to be honored with this premier industry award."

In addition to improving customer service, Avnet's field team mobility initiative also helps the company meet its operational excellence goals by increasing the productivity of Avnet's field-based electronics components team.

"Whether ushering legacy systems into the agile era or revolutionizing how their companies leverage technology to meaningful ends, this year's winners are both inspiration and proof that striking a new path in IT can reap deep organizational rewards," said InfoWorld Senior Editor Jason Snyder.
